ART INSTALLATION AS URBAN ACUPUNCTURE

We want to create points of encounter aiming to strengthen social relations in neighborhoods and in city-biotopes.

We want to create points of encounter and strengthen social relations in neighborhoods and in city-biotopes (humans, plants, animals, surroundings).
The two installations consist in colored, walkable wooden platforms and in two intersecting walls. Destined to city-parks either in suburbs or in central busy places, they are accompanied by posters, videos or floor foils intending to stimulate the rethinking and revitalization of spaces.
The project responds to the urging, common need to re-appropriate public spaces. In today's urban context, especially during pandemic restrictions, the tendency is to limit and depersonalize public space despite its importance to our connection to surroundings and cities.
It's important to preserve and develop places that allow encounters and history(s).
We aim to create new references in inhabitants' cartography and place identity. Public places can become catalysts for the appropriation of space and creation of new stories: "places of desire".

Excerpts from everyday conversations in form of exclamations in different languages and "#ourhood" (motto of the installations) are sprayed on the surfaces in order to attract people and inspire them to exchange.

Wooden surfaces, 3.5/4.5 Mt x 2/3 Mt and 35 cm high.

Intersecting vertical surfaces with rectangular openings. The surfaces are 4 x 2.30 mt. Through the two openings, a perspective interplay of views between visitors can be created. The installation functions at the same time as a meeting and border place: through a spatial separation, encounters take place.

The posters/floor films show letterings on everyday-life-places backgrounds. The letterings invite to reflect on our relationship to the neighborhood and to re-discover urban space as a space for personal development and togetherness (despite gentrification, privatization and profit-oriented construction projects). They are thought to be shown in nearest subway stations or as street billboards.
