The 4th Space

Roomscapes for Mobile Distanciation
Autonomous moving rooms will allow for a new transformative architecture

Type of project
  • Systemic changes

Throughout the city one can find mobile food vendors, kiosks, information centers, delivery of products, working stations, and mobile markets. As the post-covid agenda calls for more social distancing and compartmentalization of services, the vehicular automation process can force some of these typologies to evolve into robotic non-human interactions. This would help prevent the spread of germs and the virus. As mentioned before, companies like Bosch and IDEO have already speculated on what the new fleet of autonomous vehicles might be and how they might provide these services. Work meetings might happen while commuting in a vehicular office space for example. While this is an imminent next step for transport hybrids, they offer a new perspective for speculating how the spatial composition of architecture and our cities will be. How will compartmentalizing programs into movable rooms affect our urban spaces?
