March 2020. Founding of acute, lockdown and first peak of the global pandemic. The world stands still. Everything changes. Demographic, climatic and digital change shape our time. How can we respond to these changing realities? What role does architecture play and how does it need to develop? In order to grasp these dynamics, we develop our architecture using a modality-based methodology. By making the conditions visible, acute steers them towards a resilient architecture.

Type of project
  • Systemic changes

The project is located in the center of a rural community next to the church and the mayor’s office. It is the outcome of an initiative between the municipality and a local care provider, which tackles the issue of how to provide local care services for an aging society.
The multi-care program addresses different target groups with differentiated care needs including a daycare for elder people, a care collocation for 10 pers., six accessible apartments and a healthcare center. The core project is the High-garden. It serves as an outdoor communication platform for the care collocation and the village.
This project takes into acount specific topics that architects must consider in a rapidly changing world: pandemics, an aging society and the growing awareness of loneliness.
Using a modality based methodology allows us to design the architectural components towards an environnment that supports health and wellbeing. We use pandemic related modalities to design a resilient architecture.
