Forgotten mo(nu)ment
Forgotten mo(nu)ment
- Site-specific cases
We are the first generation after the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, so we see things differently. For us it is not only a matter of propaganda, manifest of force and fear. We see superior artworks by prominent artists, an influential part of our public space, part of our history, the memories. In some cases, the aspect of destroying the artwork was understandable as a part of powerful gesture of transforming of our society after the revolution, but in most cases a lot of ‘innocent’ artworks are lost because of lack of public interest, lack of money for their repairs and regular care. The project is solving the presence of these public artworks in new time context and also brings the topic closer to the wider public. We are sorry for all the misunderstood artworks in our public space that are lost forever, we are working on researching, collecting and reconstructing of what is left and we hope that our mistakes won´t happen in our near future.
