Open Platform for Science and Civic Participation
Open science and citizen participation platform connecting citizens and encouraging cooperation between them.
File under
Type of project
  • Systemic changes

Conceived in the context of COVID-19, the platform proposes to facilitate the creation of collaborative networks, where the main needs of citizens and institutions are identified, and collaborative actions and connections between social actors are fostered. Designed in Creative Commons format, the platform has been replicated in other cities in Brazil. It is understood that networks of urban commons, as a complement to governmental actions, will be increasingly necessary to improve living conditions in cities. In contrast to the economy of proprietary platforms, and as an alternative to the entrepreneurial narratives of smart cities, open platforms for citizen participation, oriented to the commons, may become decisive instruments for the creation of urban collaboration networks in the digital context, even more in emerging countries.

Collaborative mapping of civic requests and collaborations in the COVID-19 context for the city of São Carlos - Brazil
