Architecture as a Tool for Care

#Lecture Series, Publishing
20 May - 31 Oct 2021
VI PER Gallery, Prague, CZ
Prague, Czech Republic

We would like to focus on the very youngest generation of women in architecture, and the current reality of architectural practice as a woman, particularly in light of the crisis facing women's professions in the current pandemic.

Within the framework of Future Architecture Platform's 2021 overarching theme, Landscape of Care, we have selected the field of care for those without whom architecture would never emerge. Under what conditions do architects - and above all women in the profession - work in at the start of their careers? And what are the conditions for the work of those who build the architects' visions with their own hands?

We would like to focus on the very youngest generation of women in architecture, and the current reality of architectural practice as a woman, particularly in light of the crisis facing women's professions in the current pandemic.

Additionally, we are interested in the care received by those who build architecture, how much depends on them, and how this is reflected by the architects themselves. Our aim is to create a dialogue with architects who build their projects themselves.

Our program will consist of both lecture and publication activity.

Lectures

The project mediates the presentation of three selected emerging creatives to the VI PER gallery audience. We would like to organize events connected to our exhibition program in 2021. Our 2021 exhibition program will focus on the social background of architectural work, specifically the support and care received by the profession of architect. Creatives will present their current projects on each event to support the format of discussion and conversation to selected topics.

Publication

As part of the Future Architecture Call for Ideas 2021, VI PER Gallery is launching an open call for a publishing project. We are looking for proposals related to our 2021 program, entitled Architecture as a Tool for Care, which deals with the power of architecture to show, reflect, and create designs and tools helpful toward finding new solutions to current and urgent issues (climate crisis, pandemics, racial, social and health injustice, crisis of traditional politics and political divisiveness, the rise of authoritarianism and far-right movements, working conditions, etc.) and their impact on humans and society. We welcome projects with strong critical thinking and a clear conceptual approach. The call is open to all professions and fields of interest: architects, artists, historians, curators, researchers, writers, etc.

VI PER will select two short essays (approximately 20-30 pages long). Each will be published as a separate sheet/booklet with a short introduction. We ask for the submission of a detailed book proposal: an abstract of the idea and topic to be explored (max. 500 words) and a sample of your writing (recent article, chapter from your master or Ph.D. thesis, book chapter).
